Loesje got her name from the Dutch organisation that organises workshops for people to come up with short thought provoking sentences they put black on white posters. This one is our favourite. Posters are signed by Loesje, a Dutch female name, perfect for my girl from Holland.
She is the easiest dog I ever had, never put her feet wrong, I could take her anywhere with me and she would comfortably sleep in her carrier bag, the same one she flew home with me as a young puppy. This is probably hugely down to the big influence of her big brother, Sammy. And of course the great breeder she comes from, Sylwia Florecka of Angel's Legacy (Loesje is featured on the front page;)). So many years have passed, but we are still in contact every week, if not daily. A relationship everyone should strive for with a breeder of their dog, one I would like to have with the future families of our puppies as well.
I first came across Chinese Cresteds in 2004. Loesje came to me after 8 years of studying the breed, visiting dog shows and breeders. The more you know, the higher your expectations become so it gets harder and harder to find what you are looking for. Loesje was turning into everything I wanted, both structurally and temperamentally, but she developed Legg-Calve Perthes disease at 8 months old. My world crashed in a second. I've been waiting so long and had high hopes for her. I can't thank Sylwia enough for dealing with the situation so responsibly and for all the support she gave us.
It seems life had other plans for Loesje though and she became the first Chinese Crested therapy dog and along with Sammy one of the first school dogs in Slovenia. When we moved to the UK, it took a while for her to be accepted, because she was so different but eventually she got an opportunity to bring a diversity of skills and attitude to impact the lives of people with different conditions that she met.
I believe she is on a mission to show that even if you are different, you can still be liked. And that is powerful.
She was also one of the first five dogs in the UK who have passed the Do as I do exam (training method based on social learning).
